The 46th General Assembly of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for four days from Wednesday, September 17, to Saturday, September 20, 2025, on the subject of Parliament at the Forefront for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable ASEAN. The delegation from the House of Councillors, Mr. YAMAMOTO Keisuke (delegation leader) and Ms. TAJIMA Maiko, attended the Assembly on behalf of the National Diet of Japan, one of the observer countries.

Preceding the session, Mr. YAMAMOTO made a courtesy call on H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia. During the First Plenary Session, Mr. YAMAMOTO made a statement regarding the importance of international cooperation among local communities, Japan's cooperation in furthering ASEAN integration per the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, and the strengthening of Japan–ASEAN relations.

During the Dialogue between the delegation from Japan and the delegates from the AIPA Member Parliaments, Mr. YAMAMOTO and Ms. TAJIMA participated in a lively exchange of views on inter-parliamentary exchange and cooperation in the fields of science, technology, innovation and security, as part of a dialogue on ASEAN Centrality: Catalysing Inclusive Regional Architecture for Sustainable Future.

During the Assembly, the Japanese delegation participated in the Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIPA) Women Political Leaders Forum, and Ms. TAJIMA delivered remarks on gender equality in the political sphere. They also met with H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia as well as delegations from Australia, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Canada, and the Lao People's Democratic Republic. In addition to attending the Assembly, the delegation also offered flowers at the Japanese Cemetery and visited a university.
