Tour of the Diet Building

Notice

As part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will implement the following health safety measures on public tours of the Diet Building.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

  1. Only visitors who have made reservations in advance or those who are participating in the House of Councillors Special Experience Program will be allowed to attend tours. Reservations can be made up to three months in advance of the date you wish to visit by calling 03-5521-7445 or coming to the reception desk. Reception hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. After your reservation is accepted, we will ask you to please submit a list of the people who will be in your party.
  2. In general, eight public tours are held each weekday, starting every hour on the hour, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The maximum of participants is about 100 people per tour.
  3. Explanations for visitors to the House of Councillors will be made over the public address system while the visitors are seated on the Visitors’ Gallery in the Chamber.
  4. Please bring a mask with you and wear it while in the building. Also, please disinfect your hands when you enter the building.
  5. All visitors are asked to submit to thermographic screening of body temperature.
  6. Please refrain from visiting if you have a cold, a high fever, or you are in poor physical condition.

Anyone can visit the House of Councillors on weekdays.
A Diet guard escorts visitors to the Public Gallery, the Emperor's Room, the Imperial Family's Room, the Central Hall, the Front Courtyard, and other places.

The tour takes about 60 minutes. Those wishing to take this tour are requested to come to the reception desk for visitors.

The reception desk for visitors is located next to the Annex of the House of Councillors(MAP : 1).
There is a signboard "Tours of the House of Councillors: Entrance".

Visiting Hours: Monday through Friday (except for National Holidays)
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(Mornings are often crowded with tour groups. Individual visitors are advised to come after 9 a.m. The reception desk closes at 4 p.m.)

On days when a plenary sitting is meeting, no visitors are admitted from one hour before the opening of the sitting until the closing of the sitting.
