The 150th IPU Assembly was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for five days from Saturday, April 5 to Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The delegation from the National Diet of Japan comprised two members from the House of Councillors—Ms. UENO Michiko as deputy leader and Mr. SUGIO Hideya —as well as four members from the House of Representatives, including Mr. SEKI Yoshihiro as leader.
The plenary session lasted three days, from Sunday, April 6 to Tuesday, April 8, during which the general debate included discussion of "Parliamentary action for social development and justice," and during this session Ms. Ueno delivered a speech.
A meeting of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development included discussion of "Parliamentary strategies to mitigate the long-lasting impact of conflicts, including armed conflicts, on sustainable development," and during this session Mr. Sugio made a statement.
At the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, Ms. Ueno made a statement on “Parliamentary strategies to mitigate the long-lasting impact of conflicts, including armed conflicts, on sustainable development” as part of the contribution to the work of the 150th Assembly from a gender perspective.
Elsewhere, the delegation called on Deputy Minister of Health Rakhimovich and met with the delegations from the United Arab Emirates, Armenia, and Thailand. Also, the delegation visited the Samarkand University of Agricultural Innovation, which is engaged in a JICA grassroots technical cooperation project.
