The Parliamentary Meeting on the Occasion of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17, 2024. The delegation from the National Diet of Japan consists of two members of the House of Councillors. Mr. OCHI Toshiyuki (delegation leader) and Mr. MIYAZAKI Masaru, as well as supporting staff.

Mr. Ochi made remarks on “Making Climate Commitments a Reality: Parliaments’ Role in Raising Mitigation Ambition and Implementing Nationally Determined Contributions” in the first session and “Enhancing Resilience in the Face of Climate Change: Scalping up Adaptation and Local Empowerment” in the third session.

Mr. Miyazaki spoke on “Unpacking the Global Climate Finance Architecture: Mobilizing Resources and Streamlining Access to Climate Finance” in the second session and “Addressing Climate Vulnerability: Promoting a Comprehensive and Equitable Approach to Climate Action” in the fourth session.

The delegation also met with the delegation from the Republic of Korea, toured the Japan Pavilion, and observed other intergovernmental negotiations.
