Resolution Calling for the Sustained Promotion of Official Development Assistance

In the 177th session of the National Diet (January 24 - August 31, 2011), the House of Councillors Special Committee on Official Development Assistance and Related Matters conducted investigations, including a survey at the Komagane Training Center and other facilities of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and interviews of personnel at the Engineering and Consulting Firms Association, Japan, thereby deepening its recognition of the urgent importance of training and utilizing aid-related human resources and improving measures relating to the utilization of official development assistance (ODA) in Japan’s New Growth Strategy, which would lead to the invigoration of Japanese society.

Furthermore, the Special Committee recognized that sustained promotion of ODA based on the understanding and support of the Japanese people is necessary in order to respond to the support received from the international community, including many developing countries, at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Therefore, on July 27 the Special Committee adopted the Resolution Calling for the Sustained Promotion of Official Development Assistance.
