
Mr. KOSHIISHI Azuma
Born May 14, 1936, Tatsuoka-machi, Nirasaki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Graduated from the Faculty of Elementary Education, Tsuru Junior College in March 1958. For the following 26 years was at the coal-face of education as an elementary school teacher. Became Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Yamanashi Prefectural Teachers’ Union in 1984, and Chairman of the Yamanashi Local of the Japan Trade Union Confederation in 1986. First elected to the House of Representatives in 1990 as the representative of his co-workers from the Yamanashi Prefectural constituency, serving two terms until 1996. Served as Director of the H. R. Committee on Education. Became Director of the Yamanashi Prefecture Educational Research Institute in 1997, and Member of the House of Councillors in 1998. Endeavoring to bring back a culture in which children gather together to play based on the belief that “education is an investment in the future” and “there will be no national development without human development.” Chairman of the H. C. Committee on Land and Transport, Chairman of the Diet Affairs Committee of the DPJ Caucus in the House of Councillors and Secretary-General of the DPJ Caucus in the House of Councillors. / Currently Chair of the DPJ Caucus in the House of Councillors.
